Halloween 2011

Happy Halloween!

We had a wonderful time celebrating this fun holiday.  The girls have really started to love pumpkins, and thanks to our wonderful neighbors and friends down the street the girls were able to fill these jack-o-lantern bags with leaves and decorate the front porch.

Mia especially loved them and turned into a little bit of a goof ball during the photo shoot

 We also carved pumpkins this year.  Hannah was super excited! She had been waiting so patiently for the day we would do this.

 While Dan carved the top of the pumpkin off, Hannah practiced drawing the perfect face our jack-o-lantern would have.

 And pull out the seeds... one. at. a. time.  Yep, this could go all night...

 Mia on the other hand was not a big fan of getting dirty.  She refused to touch the pumpkin.

 Hannah finally decided on a perfect face for our new friend and drew it out on the pumpkin

(Note: she did not actually draw it, but she did color in the eyes and nose before carving)

 And now it's time to carve... Mia watched while Dan carved and Hannah pushed the pieces into the pumpkin.

 And we were all very excited once it was done.  He looked so cute!

 This year I let the girls pick their own costumes.  I really enjoy making them - I think they look best and it's part of the fun of Halloween.  Hannah wanted to be Rapunzel from her favorite movie, Tangled. And Mia wanted to dress up as Tinker Bell. 

We took the girls to Bethany Bible Chapel to their Western Town event for trick or treating on Sunday evening.  It was so neat... they made an entire western town out of cardboard boxes.

On Monday Hannah had her Preschool Halloween Party - it was actually an Orange/Pumpkin Party.  Everyone was to wear orange or dress up as a pumpkin.  I was super excited to be one of the parents asked to help at the party.  I spent a lot of my time painting finger nails orange and black for all the 3. 4 and 5 year-olds.
Hannah also got this really cool tattoo...

And yes, because I know you are thinking it - I did make her tshirt.  Hannah 'designed' the pumpkins face and I put it on her shirt.

And Hannah got to decorate a pumpkin - she loved this and spent most of her time at this activity. She loves art.

After preschool we changed into costumes and went trick or treating on Main Street

After Main Street we went trick or treating around our neighborhood.

And Mia wasn't afraid to ask 'more please' after she was given a treat.  She must be super cute because almost everyone laughed... and gave her a second treat.

It didn't take long for little Mia to be done with the trick or treating so we went home.  Dan and Hannah kept going for little while longer - she got really excited seeing the house lights because she knew those were the houses that would give her treats.  Hannah would tell each person "Trick or treat, I am here to get some candy, Mia is gone"
And we got a lot of candy!!

But out of all the yummy treats we got... these were the girls' favorite...

Good thing they were not too attached to the candy, because we took most of it (almost 6 pounds) to the dentist, and donated it to be sent to our troops overseas. 

They also got $1 per pound, a new toothbrush and other dental goodies, and their new favorite Halloween treat....
